The Healing Touch of Reiki

Updated: May 14, 2020

In May of 2016 I received my first Reiki session from Robin. She was an answer to prayer and I was able to see a light at the end of my tunnel of turmoil. For me, the physical pains, sleepless nights and loss of appetite were terrible but nothing compared to the emotional heartache I felt as a result of a death, loss, betrayal and changes in my life so drastic that my world was rocked again and again. As Robin and I worked on healing the emotional pain my body rejuvenated and repaired.

For years leading up to 2016 I had been hesitant and resistant to the idea of Reiki. I was a skeptic to say the least. Reiki kept presenting itself and I kept resisting until I was at my breaking point and my need for help outweighed any and all resistance I had. After just two sessions I knew I was called to learn this beautiful Japanese practice and my journey as a healer began.

Quick note -

I am not doing the healing. The word healer has so much power attached to it and in some cases that relationship to power is exactly appropriate. The English language has too few vocabulary words sufficient enough to both explain and exclude the right ideas for some purposes.

I was having the thought "be a place holder" over and over again. I didn't know what that even meant! I would be driving along and that phrase would be pounding through my head. I was relieved when I received my first Reiki manual and it mentioned that we, as Reiki practitioners, hold space for healing.

In a session, it is the client that is really doing the healing. There are few places in the world where someone can be completely vulnerable and supported without any negative consequences. The complete love and support I felt from Robin was almost enough to provide healing in and of itself. With Reiki training, a practitioner is able to develop intuitive gifts which provided them with insight to ask just the right questions and to know the specific support needed in order to allow the client to let go of hurts - physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. The Client is in complete control of the session and it is amazing what can transpire.

I have heard of practitioners whose methods have been less than ideal and I am saddened by those few who taint the rest of those whose desire is to provide the highest level of care. My advice? Look for a practitioner trained in Usui Holy Fire Reiki preferably with a Karuna Master. Karuna is Sanskrit for compassionate action. It is the highest level of Reiki one can achieve. I was amazed at all I learned in my Karuna Master class.

For those wanting to learn more Robin has created this wonderful introductory online class you can learn from in the comfort of your own home. She explains the art and science of Reiki. You will learn basic energy principles, the history of Reiki, chakras & auras, intuitive gifts and how to feel the energy and instructions for self Reiki. It is clean and simple with very little woo woo :D. (my hope is the idea of taking care of your energy system will become as everyday as brushing your teeth and washing your hands - which was very woo woo in the beginning of the 20th century)

You can purchase the class HERE and use the promo code: ENERGY20 to get the class for under $40. You can enjoy it again and again and see if Reiki is right for you.
